New Found Freedom And Love For Nature

The first time grandson Casey was running around in the yard, he had a ball. He went all the way to the back of it, and looked at all the shrubs, which branches are sticking through the fence. A good thing that our yard is entirely fenced in.

I walk with him to make sure he won't encounter any unwanted critters. Where our yard ends, woods start, and it has occurred several times, that snakes crawled from the woods into our grass. So far, they all have been non-poisonous snakes, but you never know. Safety first!

Casey is a curious little man. He examined the shrubs and pulled leaves off of them, looking at them and then showing me. He discovered the branches over his head, which he couldn't reach. No problem. He picked up a stick he found, laying in front of his little feet and without any hesitation, he looked up and started hitting the branches with the stick. I thought that was quite smart for a 16 month old.

Our Crate Myrtle in the yard is in full bloom now. A couple of days ago Casey, running around the yard again, stopped right in front of it and looked at it's flowers. The branches almost reach the ground, so it was easy for him to pick off some of the tiny blooms. He was fascinated with them.

I broke off a large flower and handed it to him. He headed towards his Mom, to show her, happy as a lark. By the time he got there, practically all the little flowers were gone. In his enthousiasm, he had been wiggling and shaking it around so hard, the blooms, except a few, had fallen off. That didn't diminish the fun.

It's quite obvious he loves his new found freedom and nature and 'yours truly' will exploit the last to the fullest and teach and show him all she can. Nature is one of  God's wonderful gifts to enjoy and I hope to encourage Casey's love for it, amongst other things. :-)
