Why did the chicken cross the road Part II
If you thought you had heard and read all the answers.... think again! So many people, so many opinions. I can tell you one thing. All these answers may have been formed of the persons opinion, perceptions and considerations. But if they would all share and be open to someone else's thoughts on this, we might come to the right answer. GRANDPA: "In my day we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough." BARBARA WALTERS: "Isn't that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heart warming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its life long dream of crossing the road." JOHN LENNON: "Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together, in peace." ARISTOTLE: "It is the nature of chickens to cross the road." BILL GATES: "I have just released eChicken2007, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your check book. Internet Explorer is an integral part of eChicken. This new platform is much more stable and will never cra... eh, reboot." ALBERT EINSTEIN: "Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken ." BILL CLINTON: "I did not cross the road with THAT chicken. What is your definition of chicken ." AL GORE: "I invented the chicken!" COLONEL SANDERS: "Did I miss one?" DICK CHENEY: "Where's my gun?" Hillary Clinton: " I have vast experience with chickens and if elected, I will ensure that EVERY chicken has the ability to cross any road they desire." Every one of them may have a small part of the truth and if we put all the pieces together, we may come to the whole truth. I am still left with another question though: which part of these answers would be true?

Personalized Printing
At one point I was considering to get some business cards to promote my drawings. I had no clue however, how to go about it. It just seemed to be too much work to do myself, plus we don't have the needed professional equipment. I could have gone to a printing store, but those prices are outrageous. I could have had them custom made, but the more personalized I would want the cards, the more expensive. That kind of defeated the purpose. So, I let it slide. It would have been great had I known about VistaPrint at that time. They offer business cards at a price that is just too good to be true. Plus... I could customize them totally to my likings! They offer a lot more then just business cards. If you are looking for personalized note cards, they can provide them. Even the matching envelopes come at check out. Beautiful invitations and announcements, cards, notes and stationery are some of the printing services VistaPrint has to offer. I wish we had known that for the Baby Shower we had and the Thank You notes afterwards. Guess what?! They even offer free products! Those can be fully customized to your likings as well. Maybe we can have some free checks personalized, next time we run out.

The Golden Years
Aah, the Golden Years! There is a Dutch saying which, literally translated, goes like this: "Aging comes with deficiencies."
Yeah, tell me about it. The "health" road is getting bumpier by the day. Maybe you can relate to this, although I hope not! :-)
Senior's Poem: A row of bottles on my shelf Caused me to analyze myself.
One yellow pill I have to pop Goes to my heart so it won't stop.
A little white one that I take Goes to my hands so they won't shake.
The blue ones that I use a lot Tell me I'm happy when I'm not.
The purple pill goes to my brain And tells me that I have no pain.
The capsules tell me not to wheeze Or cough or choke or even sneeze.
The red ones, smallest of them all Go to my blood so I won't fall.
The orange ones, very big and bright Prevent my leg cramps in the night.
Such an array of brilliant pills Helping to cure all kinds of ills.
But what I'd really like to know... Is what tells each one where to go?!
What used to be a common, simple cold, which would go away by itself in a few days, has become a major issue. It has to be fought and kicked out with some potent medicine. No wonder they call it the Golden Years. They certainly are.... for the pharmacy industry, hah.
There's always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it. For example, I am sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt. I would be screaming in pure agony if they did!

Pearls
Oysters are not only good eating, they also produce one of the most beautiful items used for jewelry. Pearls! A pearl is formed, when something gets in the oyster. This can be a grain of sand, or some other little thing, that irritates the oyster. As a defense mechanism, the oyster covers it with layers. The substance that these layers consist of, is called nacre. And there it is, the birth of the pearl. The amount, quality and shape of nacre that surrounds it, determines the quality and size of the pearl. Isn't nature wonderful?! These days, many pearls are cultured and there is a great variety of Pearls. There are for instance Tahitian pearls, Akoya pearls, salt- and freshwater pearls, Mabe pearls and White South Sea pearls. If you like to know the difference between all these pearls, visit this site. When I say pearl jewelry, most people think of elaborate necklaces and bracelets, but pearls lend themselves for fine and delicate jewelry as well.
I think most women love pearls and if you are still considering what to give Mom for her Mother's Day, pearl jewelry makes a great gift and now you can get quality pearls at wholesale prices!

Why did the chicken cross the road?
Why did the chicken cross the road? The simple answer would be: to get to the other side! Isn't that why any one, person or animal, would want to cross a road? Let's think about this for a minute. Ehh... no, let's not. So many others have already thought for us. Here are some of them with their own version of what is, should be or must be the answer. DR. PHIL : " The problem we have here is that this chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the problem on 'THIS' side of the road before it goes after the problem on the 'OTHER SIDE' of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he's acting by not taking on his 'CURRENT' problems before adding 'NEW' problems ". OPRAH: " Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life, I'm going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens." GEORGE W. BUSH: "We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here."
COLIN POWELL: "Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road..." .
ANDERSON COOPER - CNN: "We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road." JOHN KERRY: "Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken's intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against it."
NANCY GRACE: "That chicken crossed the road because he's GUILTY! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks."
PAT BUCHANAN: "To steal the job of a decent, hardworking American."
MARTHA STEWART: "No one called me to warn me which way that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer's Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider information."
DR SEUSS: "Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I've not been told."
ERNEST HEMINGWAY: "To die in the rain. Alone."
JERRY FALWELL: "Because the chicken was gay! Can't you people see the plain truth? That's why they call it the 'other side.' Yes, my friends, that chicken is gay. And if you eat that chicken, you will become gay, too. I say we boycott all chickens until we sort out this abomination that the liberal media white washes with seemingly harmless phrases like 'the other side'. That chicken should not be crossing the road. It's as plain and as simple as that." Uh oh, I am getting pretty confused here. I do have one question though. Why did that stupid chicken have to cross the road? She should have stayed where she was. That would never have brought up this question!

Facial Therapy
Just this morning I was looking at an article showing many celebrities who supposedly had cosmetic surgery done. Several were looking really good, but others had had a bad treatment, and it showed! Cosmetic surgery is the new trend and no one really is surprised anymore, when hearing someone had it done. It is socially accepted and even promoted. How do you know where to find an excellent cosmetic institute? Mostly by looking at the results and mouth to mouth advertisement. I got one for you: the Advanced Medical Institute! They are specialized in enhancing your image without having to have surgery done. The most common skin problems like spider veins, sun damage and pore size, can be treated with Photo Rejuvenation. This is a procedure using an intense pulse light system, which also lessens wrinkles, blemishes and Rosacea. They have many more treatments. Getting rid of annoying facial hair is a breeze with the pulsed light hair removal therapy. Epidermex skin treatments are available as well as Sonic youth therapy. Balding? There are outstanding results with Hair Restoration by some of the world's leading experts! You can request a free brochure online. For Rosacea treatment Chicago, or other location information, just visit the website and enhance your appearance.

Judging
A man came home from work and found his four children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard.
The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog.
Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing.
In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.
He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out of the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.
As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?" She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world I do all day?"
"Yes" was his incredulous reply.
She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it."
Another example of things not always being as they appear, but also how we assume so easily and tend to judge upon our assumptions and beliefs, without really knowing what, how and why. In my humble opinion, the knocking, seeking and asking should also be applied more to our relationship with others. It not only makes for better communication, but also pegs the real need. God knows our hearts. We can't know someone else's, unless we ask and seek. And often you have to knock several times before it's opened. But when it does, we can fill the need with love and care. They are worth the effort.

When The Shoe Fits
Youngest has difficulties finding nice, comfortable, stylish shoes to wear. She usually ends up with clogs or sandals. Not very suitable for dressy occasions. The few pair of shoes she has, that go with a dress or skirt, are getting extremely painful after wearing them for a little while. I found the Infinity Shoes website and I have no doubt our youngest daughter would find several pair she would love and are easy on her feet. The diversity in choice is so great and they have a large selection of brand names. Whether you are looking for seychelles shoes, tsubo shoes, or the more western styled minnetonka boots, you can find them at Infinity Shoes, as well as the more well known brands like Birkenstock, Clarks and Timberland. Since youngest has her birthday coming up and their budget is a little tight, I was thinking it might be a nice present to give her some good, nice shoes. I know she would like these. They are stylish, fashionable, not too high and the elastic in the back would not dig in her heels. Besides that, it is so her! They come in different colors and there is even a size chart, which is one of the great gift options available on this website.

Grandma Passed Away
Yesterday, my Mom called to let me know that my grandmother had passed away last Sunday. It was to be expected. Grandma had been ill since last January and many in the family suspected she would not even make it till her birthday, which was end of February. She did, and reached the respectable age of 102 years! The picture below was taken when she turned 100 years of age. .jpg) Things went downhill after Grandma's birthday. She deteriorated fast. She got cervical cancer and due to her age, the doctors didn't think it wise to do surgery. She got morphine for the pain and had to have astronaut food because she couldn't eat anymore. Physically, she got worse, but mentally she was very much up to date until the end. Praise The Lord! I can not tell you if she was saved. I don't know, but I pray she was. I would like to see her again one day. :-)

Within Reach
Many people may know South Africa as the most important finding place of diamonds. But did you know it also has a great diversity of nature? Cape Town is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is situated at the foot of Table Mountain. One majestic and impressive work of nature I would love to see!
I probably could spend several days exploring and admiring Table Mountain. I think I would loose myself, literally and figuratively speaking, but then I would miss out on the walks on those miles off beaches, which are appealing to me as well. Since I like history, I definitely would be interested in hearing the story of Robben Island. Flights to Cape Town are so cheap, they even lend themselves for a weekend getaway. Hmmm, now there is a Mother's of Father's Day idea!:-)

Redneck or Genius IV
I don't like to gossip, but I would advice you to stay away from our neighbors. Ever since they won a huge amount of money, they are acting kind of weird. I think the money went to their head and they feel like they are so much better than us common folks.
Sure gotta love their new wheels! They won a contest by making this ginger-bread house.
It was the best looking entry in the contest! Very tasty too. :-) They left for vacation yesterday and asked us to watch their house for the duration of their time out.
We hope they will have a great time. We are glad they took their cat with them. It's been bugging the dogs and has them barking all night.
I love the cat-carrier they got him. Must have cost a pretty penny. Anyway, I am happy for them. It must be nice to be able to spend some money on things you like to get. But... I am not complaining. When we need anything, we just brainstorm. So far, that has always resulted in a solution. For now, we got all we need and then some! :-D

No More Wrong Number
My stepfather in law is in his eighties and one day he had called over at our place just to catch up. A little while later, our caller-ID showed his name when he called again. I answered the phone and he fell silent. I inquired if he was okay. He answered he was fine in a very jovial way, and we talked for a little until all of a sudden he asked: "Who is this?" After I mentioned my name, I could hear the relief in his voice when he apologized profusely. He had no clue who he was talking to and had meant to call someone else, but pressed the wrong button! He is not the only one who that happened to. Another elderly friend of ours managed to do the same thing, as well as "yours truly"! I have a hard time to see the numbers or read the names when I make or receive a call. All of this is history with the Jitterbug! It has bigger buttons, large text and a loud and clear speaker. You can actually see who you are calling, what button to press and there are many easy to understand services and plans available. No roaming, no long term contracts and a 30-day return policy. Although I can't see you would want to quit this great service! :-)
For any question you have or help you need , there is a live, friendly, helpful service around the clock to assist you. No wonder why Jitterbug is recognized as the best new company in this industry!

Touching Story
This is so worth reading. Keep your handkerchief close! At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question: "When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things in my son?"
The audience was stilled by the query.
The father continued. 'I believe that when a child like Shay, physically and mentally handicapped comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child'
Then he told the following story: Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, 'Do you think they'll let me play?' Shay's father knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but the father also understood that if his son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.
Shay's father approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, 'We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning.'
Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt. His Father watched with a small tear in his eye and warmth in his heart. The boys saw the father's joy at his son being accepted in the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three. In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as his father waved to him from the stands. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again. Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.
At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat and everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.
However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact. The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.
The game would now be over. The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.
Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all team mates. Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, 'Shay, run to first! Run to first!' Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.
Everyone yelled, 'Run to second, run to second!' Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base. By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball. . the smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team. He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head. Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.
All were screaming, 'Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay'
Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, 'Run to third! Shay, run to third!' As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, : 'Shay, run home! Run home!' Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team. 'That day', said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, 'the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world.' Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making his father so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!
We all share thousands of jokes through the Internet without a second thought, but when it comes to sharing messages about life choices, people hesitate. The crude, vulgar, and often obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion about decency is too often suppressed in our schools and workplaces. If you're thinking about sharing this message, chances are that you're probably considering people who aren't the 'appropriate' ones to read this type of post. Well, the person who shares this believes that we all can make a difference. We all have thousands of opportunities every single day to help realize the 'natural order of things.' So many seemingly trivial interactions between two people present us with a choice: Do we pass along a little spark of love and humanity or do we pass up those opportunities and leave the world a little bit colder in the process? Have a great Shay Day!

The Beauty of Nature
I love gardening and truly enjoy the fruits of my labor. The flowers always fascinate me. The shapes, the fragrances and the colors are so beautifully combined. It's a joy to look at them. A day at a botanical garden is a treat for me and I just learned that smack dab in the middle of the city of Orange, Texas, the Shangri La Gardens and Nature Center are situated. I would love to visit and indulge in the beauty of the gardens.
What makes it even more attractive is that the Shangri La Botanical Gardens & Nature Center are one of the most earth-friendly projects in the world. The eco friendly nature and history of the gardens have resulted in the U.S. Green Building Coundil's Platinum certification for LEED®-NC! This means that the overall buildings' architecture, the efficiency of its equipment and lighting reduce energy cost by 70%. The passive solar heating and cooling, optimized overhangs, soybean-based spray foam insulation in the walls and ceilings, and window placement all contribute to the energy savings. All this has made Shangri La to one of the 50 greenest buildings of the world. This is a place for the entire family to have a great time. For the kids, there is an Exhibit Hall, Discovery Theater, Children's Garden, as well as Exhibition Greenhouses, Cafe, and Garden Store in the Orientation Center. Shangri La encourages and assists education and offers free educational tours of the Botanical Gardens and Nature Center. The Nature Center has lots to visit as well. A Nature Discovery Center, a laboratory, and three outdoor classrooms located deep in the cypress swamp.
The Shangri La Botanical Gardens & Nature Center in Orange city, Texas, are an absolute must to visit and if you are not yet able to, visit their website. I can assure you, you will put it high on your list of places to visit!

Another Portrait
Isn't he sweet?! He is a friend's first son and we wanted her to have something special. She send us several picture of her son when he was a baby, just to share her joy. :-) A perfect, beautiful little boy, sleeping safe and secure. The serenity of this picture was the most striking. It's like looking at a little angel. This little guy is about 2 years old now and still as cute as a button. He has got a baby sister, so pretty as well. As soon as I have the time, I will put her on paper too. Hopefully, that will be soon.

Dealership Heartache Past History
Our daughter's car had broken down and upon inspection it turned out the engine had to be replaced. The amount of money involved was better spend on another vehicle, so they headed out to find a replacement. Had we known about CARCHEX , we would have made good use of it at that time. It could have saved the kids money and heartache. They ended up with a used car, that was in need of major repairs as well. CARCHEX offers a free service to consumers called the Car Buying Concierge. After submitting your details, a car buying expert gathers up your information and wishes in a personal call to you and then takes it from there. They act on your behalf as a car buying agent and negotiate with several car dealers to get you the best deal. The Car Buying Concierge also negotiates trade-in value and financing terms for a purchase or a lease. This service of CARCHEX is absolutely free and available nationwide! What a great service. It will definitely prevent lots of horror stories you hear so much about, buying used or even new cars and negotiating with dealerships. Maybe you have experienced one yourself. Please share, and know you can avoid all that in the future!

Thankful
The other day, I had some mail that I needed to go to the post-office for. Our oldest offered to take me and I would just run in and out. Yeah, right. You don't "run in and out" of a post-office. You stand in line and wait till you weigh an ounce (Dutch expression, hehe) before it finally is your turn.
It was hot outside and I so dreaded the thought of having to wait. T
he little walk from the car to the entrance of the post-office added to that with perspiration and a worn out feeling. While walking up there, I was thinking:" Oh God, I wish there would be no one in there. I wish there wouldn't be a line. I hope I don't have to wait so long."
Entering the post-office, I saw there were only two people there! One old lady, who was attended to by the employee and an old man, waiting "in line" behind her. A feeling of relief and gratitude welled up in me as I thought: "Wow, that's a surprise!"
As I took my place behind the old man, he suddenly turned around and said to me: "Aren't you surprised that there is no line?!"
Hearing him wording my thoughts made me smile and I answered: "Yes sir, I am!"
He then turned back, waited his turn and went about his business and
I was in and out before I knew it.
Coming home, I told my husband about it and while telling him, I used the word "coincidental", by lack of another. I was apprehensive about using that word because I don't believe in coincidence anymore. Everything happens for a reason.
What could the reason be?
Considering this, I think the old man was a reminder to count my blessings and be thankful for them. :-)
